Named Captain for the Game

Hello Readers,

With more or less one week until the summer break we have played 10 out of the 11 teams in the league and have had a pretty good start to season. With that being said, I suffered one of my most disappointing moments in the two years since I joined Ange on Wednesday night.

We played Frano SK, a team in mid table who had only picked up 12 points so far this season, respectfully. We had three of our key players missing through injury and suspension: Adam, Brad and Oscar, and I had been named captain for the game. The game was fairly even in the first half with neither team dominating the other but we knew the pressure was on us, as we were top of the league and playing at home, where we hadn’t lost in over two seasons.

The score was 1-1 at the break, but we started the second half brightly and put them under pressure early on. As the clock counted down we knew we needed to score, in order to maintain our winning run and not hand the advantage to Kubinborgs who were playing Ostersund on Sunday. We kept knocking at their door and finally got our reward with only minutes left in the game. In the 88th minute we were award a corner, which we knew was something that they had struggled to deal with the whole game. I played the ball into the box and as the keeper attempted to come and catch the ball there was a goal mouth scramble and somehow the ball ended up in the back of net. We were over the moon! Having been beaten by Solleftea in the dying minutes earlier in the season, we know how important late goals can be.

At this point we knew all we have to do is stay focused and see out the game. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case. To their credit, Frano SK didn’t give up and scored straight from the kick off. A ball was played over our defence into the box, and one of their strikers ran onto the ball and scored passed Lloyd. This was a kick in the teeth, although we hadn’t played at our best throughout the game, you’d like to think that with less than three minutes left to play we could win the game. As the captain you feel certain sense of responsibility when your team loses, but I feel I couldn’t have given anymore. Even though we didn’t lose, it left like a loss and we’ll have to pick ourselves back up and go again.

This weekend is a Swedish holiday called Mid-Summer, I think they celebrate it all over the world but more so in Sweden. I’ve been told that it’s as big as New Year’s Eve and Christmas, so I’m excited to see what all the fuss is about. We’re going to spend the weekend having a barbeque and seeing friends which should be fun.
