Millwall youngster Romain Esse has put pen to paper on a long-term professional contract with the south east London outfit.
The 17-year-old prospect has been at the club since the age of nine and is a regular fixture for the U18s and U21s.
He made his debut for the first team in a friendly vs Brondby IF back in November and has since gone onto feature a further four times for the senior side.
Speaking on Twitter, Esse said: “The hard work continues. Proud moment to sign my first contract at Millwall. I can’t wait to continue learning and growing at the club I’ve been at since I was nine.”
Millwall boss, Gary Rowett added: “Brilliant news. Romain’s one who we have really high hopes for. He’s not just a player for the long-term, he’s a player for the here and now.
“He’s got real talent, real good technical ability and most of all what’s impressive is his attitude, the humble nature in the way he comes in and does his work, so he’s fit into the group really well straight away and he’s a player that when the first team players are talking about him you know there’s a special talent there.
“He’s got a lot to do, he’s still got to work incredibly hard to get to where he wants to be but I think some involvement with the first team will take him a long way over the next three or four months and then next season I expect him to be challenging for a place in the starting line-up, so really important that we got him tied down, great that he’s committed to the club and sees it as a good place to develop and we’re really excited for what the future holds for Romain.”
