Sunderland’s U18 squad recently embarked on a team building trip to the Lake District where they enjoyed a variety of activities through the course of a day, hosted and guided by a local adventure company.
The young Black Cats started the day at the bottom of cat bells mountain where they were tasked with an orienteering activity. The squad split into two separate groups, were given maps and had to lead the group from their start point to the location of their next activity, rock climbing. “Jaydon Jones and Fin Holcroft did a great job at leading their groups with some good teamwork from the rest of the group too” said Academy Player Care Lead, Evie Innes.
A couple of hours rock climbing followed once the apprentices successfully navigated themselves to the location, with all taking part and a few conquering some fears.
The apprentices then finished off the day with some canoeing on Derwent Water.
Following the trip, Evie Innes said: “The day was great. An opportunity for the staff to spend time with the boys, pushing them out of the comfort zone, providing them with new experiences and the opportunity to develop new skills. Neil and the team at Discover Edventure were great. At the end of each activity, they had a debrief with the boys about what they might have learnt/ found challenging which is a great foundation for the work we will do with them during their scholarship.”
