Accrington Apprentices Make Senior Step Up

Two former and one current LFE apprentice(s) have signed professional contracts with Accrington Stanley.

Defender Josh Smith and midfielder Charlie Hall were both part of the 2022 – 2024 apprenticeship cohort, while striker Anjola Popoola is set to embark on the second-year of his apprenticeship.

After putting pen-to-paper, all three players expressed their delight at turning pro.

Josh Smith said: “I’ve been working incredibly hard for this moment. Anyone close to me knows the work that’s gone into this, so I’m just delighted to finally to say I’m a professional footballer and it’s now time to kick on.”

Charlie Hall said: “It’s massive. It’s a very proud moment for me and my family. It’s something that I’ve been looking forward to all my life really and I’m just buzzing.”

Finally, Anjola Popoola added: “It’s really exciting. I can’t wait to get started to be honest, that’s the main feeling.
