Preston Youngsters Train Their Brain

Preston’s Under-18 players have been putting mind over matter as part of LFE’s Life Skills programme with the expert help of Jamie Edwards from Trained Brain.

Edwards has worked with a number of sporting greats, including Ashes hero Andrew Flintoff MBE, Rugby World Cup winner Lewis Moody MBE and Ryder Cup star Lee Westwood.

Focusing on the mental challenges faced by top sports professionals, Edwards has more recently worked with Real Madrid star Gareth Bale, Manchester City and England goalkeeper Joe Hart and Manchester United and England defender Luke Shaw.

Now North End’s youngsters are hoping to lift themselves up to the next level with Edwards assistance.

Edwards said: “I think that if the one thing that they’ll take away is that they can’t go to another level unless they add training their brain to training their feet and training their body.”

Teenage defender Clive Smith was impressed by the session: “I’m looking at things differently from when I came in to it originally. I’ve come out with a different perspective.”

“I might prepare for a game differently, might prepare for training differently…hopefully it’ll bring me out a better player,” he continued.

The two-and-a-half hour session was delivered as part of LFE’s Life Skills programme, which covers a range of topics that include equality and diversity, emotional well-being, social media and more.
