Oldham Athletic midfielder Carl Winchester will miss the start of the League One season after picking up a knee injury.
The versatile 20-year-old, who came through the club’s youth ranks, recently penned a new one-year deal at Boundary Park.
While midfield is his favoured position, Latics boss Lee Johnson has indicated that he believes the youngster could develop best in the full-back position.
“I know Carl wants to play in midfield, but I want to have a look at him at right back because I think he has the potential to be a top class right back,” Johnson recently told the club’s website.
Winchester has made one senior international appearance for Northern Ireland.
