Oxford United 18s have been training at Carrington today (Manchester United’s training base) ahead of this evening’s huge FA Youth Cup quarter-final tie with Manchester City.
It’s the first time Oxford have reached this stage of the historic competition, and a match up against the Citizens provides them with their biggest challenge yet. Manchester City’s U18s currently sit top of the U18 Premier League North.
The Us have progressed to this stage of the competition after beating another Premier League outfit in Leeds United 3-0 at the Kassam Stadium in the fifth round a few weeks ago. You can read Oxford United’s match report from that game here.
Speaking to Oxford’s official website ahead of tonight’s clash, midfielder Tobias Brenan spoke of the belief within the squad: “They’ll be a good team but all the boys are up for it so we should give them a good challenge. We want to show what we are made of and how good we are as well.
“As long as we go into the game with self-belief, believe in and implement the game plan then we definitely have a chance. We’ve made history and we know the club are behind us so we just want to do everyone proud.”
The game will take place at the Manchester City Academy Stadium and will kick off at 7pm. The winner of the tie will travel to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal in the semi-finals.
